"CLEOPATRA'S NEEDLE" A STOLEN AFRICAN TREASURE IN AMERICA "CLEOPATRA'S Needle" or "The Alexandrian Obelisk" are combinations of words which may represent very little, if anything at all, to most African-Americans in New York City, much less throughout the United States of America. Yet, this ancient symbol of the Egyptian Mysteries System, which represents many of the secrets of today's Freemason's society, is a statue that once guarded the shrine where the African of the Hebrew Faith, Moses, received his "INITIATION" and other "DEGREES OF LEARNING”. It looks over New York City's CENTRAL PARK from January 22, 1881 C.E. (A.D.) until this very day while I sit and write this Lecture-Essay. This historic masterpiece and constant reminder of the genius of the indigenous Africans (the so-called "Negroes") mind very seldom attracts the very faintest attention of young or old African-Americans- the descendants and legitimate inheritors of those indigenous Africans who created it. This obelisk, no different to the others ravaged of Egypt and carried off to London, Paris, even the Vatican City and other centers of Europe, was illegally transferred to the United States of America through the machinations of the Khedieve Ishmael (a ruler of Turkish and Albanian ancestry) of Egypt on May 18, 1879 C.E. "Cleopatra's Needle" was cut from a stone of the quarry at Syent, and first was erected at the City of Heliopolis by Pharaoh Thotmes III in 1600 B.C.E. It was stolen from its original site by the Romans and re-erected at the City of Alexandria, Egypt, under the reign of Emperor Agustus Caesar in 22 B.C.E. Finally it was removed from Alexandria and carried off to the United States of America by way of Paris, France, through the machinations of W. H. Vanderbilt and Ishmael-mentioned before, in 1881 C.E. The recipients for the United States of America were: Rutherford Burchard Hayes --President of the United States of America, and William Maxwell Evart --Hayes' Secretary of State. The removal and re-erection projects were under the sole supervision and direction of Lieutenant-Commander Henry H. Goringe of the United States Navy. Is it at all strange that the laying of the "Cornerstone of Cleopatra's Needle" was done without a solitary person of African origin being invited to officiate in an official capacity, or even serve as an official guest. If you are amazed; just imagine that the so-called "Freemasons of the United States of America", then headed by the man who carried the title..."Most Worshipful Grand Master of the State of New York," Jesse B. Anthony, with the full cooperation of the Commissioner of Public Parks of the City of New York --who affixed the City's Seal to the Cornerstone on October 9, 1881 A.D., failed to have the oldest of the African-American Freemasons in the United States of America, the Prince Hall Mason that date back to America's War of Independence, as official honored guests. Yet all of the so-called "Three Letters Lodges" of White Americans who wanted to join the official parade for the Cornerstone setting were entitled to so do by contacting the "Right Worshipful E.M.L. Ehlers, Grand Marshall of the Day" (Of the New York Masonic Temple.) Thus you have seen that the inheritors, the only true ones, of the signs and symbols inscribed on "Cleopatra's Needle"(Masonically truth) were the ones barred by means of the type of racism that permeates the entire structure and fabric of European-American society; the White Brothers forgetting conveniently that the Grand Lodge of Luxor, the MOTHER LODGE of all Freemason Lodges, is still located in deepest north Africa along the banks of the Nile River. The saddest spectacle of the entire affair was the parading of a group of Masons under the title of ... But, the worse of the many ironies came when the Grand Master addressed the "Craft" and reached the portion in his speech which states the following: ...Coming thus publicly before the world as One must wonder how much of a racist a man or his organization must become before either will admit to "unprejudiced minds.” The extremely lengthy speech of the Grand Master also cited the fact that: ...The Egyptians were the first to observe the Of course the Grand Master failed to note why he and his subordinates barred the descendants of the Egyptians from participating in their own ancestors’ organization, their legitimate heritage; the laying of the Cornerstone being in honor of said heritage. But to me, the highlight of the Grand Master's speech came when he confessed to his fellow Europeans and European-Americans greed, as he noted: Egypt abounded in obelisks, or monoliths, Of course the United States of America added to its “trophies” one of the many obelisks illegally removed from Africa, Egypt in this case. It was removed by people who had no legitimate African heritage; and they did not gain it legally from the rightful and legal African owners, but from an invader --the Khedieve Ishmael, a man who sold most of his empire to French and British interests in order to enhance his own personal financial wealth at the expense of the indigenous Africans of Egypt impoverishment. The turn about face, and moment of maximum hypocrisy, came when the Grand Master echoed the following remarks in order to maintain his Anglo-Saxon image and European-style Christianity as the origins of Freemasonry in racist European-America. He stated: It is questionable in my mind whether we areto It is quite sad to note that any head of a Freemason's body, especially a Grand Master, is not aware of the fact that the entire structure of Freemasonry is copied after the Grand Lodge of Luxor; and much more ancient still, back to the signs and symbols of primordial man --the indigenous Twa people of central Africa (otherwise called "Pygmies" by European and European-American historians and other writers on Africa and her peoples.) I suggest that all Freemasons who are not aware of the history of their society's origin should read the following works on the subject relative to the meaning of their "I" or God- ‘the Master of the East, RA, Giver of Light, Creator of the Mysteries. who resides in Amenta." Any of the above works should certainly reveal that even King Solomon of Israel had to attend the subordinate Lodge at Mount Carmel to receive his own initiation into the Egyptian Mysteries System. That the System was controlled by the Osirica of the Grand Lodge of Luxor. And that even the Christians' Jesus Christ of Nazareth had to attend the Lodge at Carmel for his initiation under indigenous African Priests. Of course the Grand Master had not forgotten that the obelisk (for which he laid the Cornerstone) stood an the entrance of the Lodge where Moses received his education into the ”Higher Mysteries.” Where are the pyramids Ever-All-Seeing-Eye; Square of Life's Travails: Triangle of Heaven's Ladder; the 3, 5, and 7: the Inner Sanatorium; Double Pyramids”. --the so-called "Star of David, et all? Are they not in the Books of the Mysteries System, and written in the Pyramid and Coffin Texts? Or, does the Grand Master not know these things? All of which modern Freemasonry cannot, or should not, do without; that is, if he is "on the Square of the BOOK OF THE DEAD," and follows the ”Commandments” stated in the NEGATIVE CONFESSIONS(from which Moses co-opted his TEN COMMANDMENTS). On page 145 of Henry H. Goringe's, EGYPTIAN OBELISKS, which I have already referred to repeatedly, under the heading --"Record of all Egyptian Obelisks," there is a list of 43 obelisks of which more than half, 28, have been illegally removed from Egypt, Africa, and re-erected in places such as London, Rome, Paris, and other cities of Europe and the United States of America- including that which this lecture concerns itself with primarily. Goringe's historical account of these robberies must be very carefully studied by professors and students of African and African-American (Black) Studies programs. His work details all of the underhanded tactics employed publicly by the parties concerned with the illegal removal of the Alexandrian Monolith, so-called "Cleopatra's Needle!," from Alexandria Egypt, North Africa, via Paris, France(Europe), to its present location in Central Park, New York, New York, U.S.A. The most comical of all the attempts at plagiarizing the history of this obelisk is the portrait of an Anglo-Saxon Caucasian woman on page 72a depicting what is supposedly a likeness of Queen Cleopatra, allegedly taken from one of the coins used during her reign over Egypt. She is even shown dressed in the latest style of the year 1885 C.E., the same year Goringe published his book Of what major importance was “Cleopatra's Needle” that so much international intrigue was necessary to acquire it? Within its inscriptions are the keys to many signs and symbols, not only of the Egyptian Mysteries System, but of its own ancient history relative to the signs and symbols of the God of Puanit (Punt); the same Puanit which Queen Hat-shep-sut said: "Amon (one of the major Gods of Egypt during her glorious reign) conceived the myrrh-terraces of Puanit, the original home of the Gods.” This queen, or pharoah, also reproduced a "myrrh-terrace" of her own in Egypt according to the instructions on one of the "inspirations" she had "received from Amon." Thus, she said, with respect to her angelic calling: “Amon desired me to establish for him a Puanitin his Of course, since the queen did not receive her "calling" and "inspiration" from the same "God" the Hebrew and Christian prophets received theirs, "Western” theologians would have us reject hers and all others from such sources as not being God inspired revelations and writings like those in the Hebrew Holy Torah and the Christian Holy Bible, also the Moslem Holy Koran (Qu'ran), as if Moses, Jesus Christ, and Mohamet did not receive their "calling through the Africans of the Nile Valley, Egypt in particular, BOOK OF THE DEAD; and that from said eye-opener Moses took the foundation of Hebrewisn or Judaism --the mother of Christianity, and grandmother of Islam; and from these things and the Coffin Texts' NEGATIVE CONFESSIONS of the Osirian Drama Moses copied his TEN COMMANDMENTS. It is a glorious region of God's-land, indeedit is my The above quotation, the last from Queen Hat-shep-sut's report found in her temple, is not the only one of its kind in which a pharaoh of Egypt (Kimit) wrote of Puanit, its Gods, and its most beautiful "myrrh-terraces." Of course the story about "Noah and the flood" is not heathen rhetoric, being that it is the "inspired writings of the Holy scribes of God" --the Hebrews, Christians and Moslems 'God; whereas that of the queen is from a "pagan god;" at least this is the only impression one gets when reading the various remarks on this area in Goringe's work. This type of religious propaganda and mythological philosophy is daily instilled in the mind of the vast majority of African-Americans, many of whom pass it on as professors in Black Studies Courses in which the so-called "Western Religions" (Judaism, Christianity and Islam) are shown to be much the superior of purely west African religions. However, because to few African-American professors have tried to learn Hieroglyphs, they must accept second, third, and even fourth, class translations, transliterations, and interpretations of the most racist and religiously bigoted Semiticized versions of their African ancestors of Egypt, North Africa, history and contributions to world culture --the origin upon which European (Greek and Roman) civilizations, and that of the so-called "Western world," rest. The racial bigotry exhibited at the "Setting of the Cornerstone" for "Cleopatra's Needle" in Central Park, New York City, New York, a publicly supported place of recreation of which Blacks tax dollars also are also utilized for its upkeep; yet the image of this obelisk still remains stereotyped in all subsequent materials being written on an official basis from the Parks Department of the City of New York under whose care it remains. It is the same Anglo-Saxon, Semite, and other European-Americans bearing the title, ”Freemasons:” who are still being said to be the inheritors of it; and it is still the same group who does not permit Blacks of United States of America's origin to enter their lodges under the pretext that the "Freemason's law forbid the acceptance of ex-slaves for entrance into the craft." If this is true, there should not be one European or European-American in the craft. What is the primary cause for all of the confusion relative to the "setting of the Cornerstone" for one of Africa's sons and daughter's most precious jewels --the so-called "Cleopatra's Needle"? It is birthed in the United States of America's Black man's almost complete ignorance of his historical and cultural heritage (through no fault of his) which his fore parents experienced in Africa long before the arrival of the Europeans in world history. And because of the African-American lack of knowledge of his glorious and magnificent past which many European and European-American "liberal" and "conservative" mis-educators are able to deny him by co-opting his heritage under devious religious, racial, and philosophic semantical jargon; using words like "Caucasian" or "Caucasoid North Africa, Semitic peoples of Egypt, Nilotic Hamites of East Africa, Black Africans, Africans South of the Sahara, Negro Africa, Bantu Africa, Hotentots, Bushmen, Pygmies. If and many other such racist and religiously impregnated terms in a discipline they created and named "Anthropology," and another called "paleontology," both of them based upon the concept of the superiority of the so-called "Indo-European Aryan and Semitic-Caucasian race," whatever that is. Yet this 'God-perfected race of men and women must reach deep down into the "Negro" quagmire of east and south Africa to claim the most ancient of fossil-men known to mankind –Zijanthropus boisie. Boskop man, Zimbabwe (the so-called "Rhodesia") man, also others, and claim them as "Caucasians" and "Semites" in order to established their own antiquitus heritage to man's origin in Africa; thereby abandoning their own original "creation story" of an "Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden" somewhere in Persia along the beginning of the Tigris and Euphrates valleys, all of which the Hebrew and Christian "Holy Scripture" have in the First Book of Moses (otherwise called the Book of Genesis) "written by God inspired men." What is the answer? There are many answers to the general problem facing Black Studies and African Studies professors of African origin. However, the answer to this one is to be found in the lack of meaningful scholarship on the part of African American and African educators in various fields and disciplines in which their African ancestors' contributions throughout north and east Africa are exploited by other people, due mostly to their own overt over-emphasis on west Africa, which they have been told is the only place from whence the Africans who were enslaved in the "New World" came. This type of stereotyping of the African-Americans, on the part of European-Americans, as well as some of their African underlings who have not studied on their own, but referring strictly to their former slave masters racist concepts, cause them to surrender north African High-Culture and heritage to the Europeans and European-Americans by default. The slave mentality driven into most of us directs one to believe first:-- that all of the African-Americans who were brought over to the Caribbean and the Americas were "uncivilized: "secondly: it leads one to believe that there was some sort of “a natural barrier that separated Africa south of the Sahara from the north;" and that "North Africa's historv is separate and Semitic;" thirdly: that "East Africa's history is Hamitic." All of these stereotype myths have remained basically unchallenged by the vast majority of African and African-American writers, historians, and general educators of all disciplines, most of us knowing very little better, and others only interested in west Africa alone --from as far north as Tombut(1) to as far south as the Mani-Kongo River.(2) These educators and writers even tend to surrender the great heritage of the contributions of their ancestors at the University of Sankhore in Tombut, Melle,(3) and relate them solely [1. The original name for the European's version called "Timbuktu,Timbuctoo, Timbuctu," and many other variations. 2. The original name of today's Congo and Ubhangi rivers. 3. Melle is the correct spelling of the Frenchized "Mali." Romans like Septimus Paulnius and Setunius Flaccus, as early as 50 and 30 BCE wrote about West African empires at the Niger.] to Arab influences from the southern Arabian Peninsula by the way of Mecca and Medina; each conveniently forgetting that the Empire of Melle was itself an independent out-growth of the High-Culture (civilization) that predated the great West African Empire of Ghana by thousands of years; yet we are aware that they have been taught the Arabic and Hamitic slant in West African history from European and European-American historians like Courland, H. M. Stanley, Erwin, and others of the Semitic and Hamitic syndrome. These conditions also relate to the general lack of data Black Studies programs suffer because of their professors and administrators refusal to engage in meaningful research and publication of materials which would remove the type of racial stereotyping the European and European-American mass-produced book companies are manufacturing from rehash 18th and 19th century colonial Tarzan and Jane caricatures of the African peoples. They also happen because the control of research, finance, publication, and distribution of African and African-American scholars, for the most part, are in the hands of people who bear the title "authority of African History" due only to the fact that they are in control of the areas of publication I have just detailed; these being the same people who write their own history in a lily-White perspective, thus taking for themselves all of north Africa as "Caucasian" or "Caucasoid," and when this is challenged somewhat they hide behind the biblical racism of a "Semitic" and "Hamitic" north and east Africa. Blacks must control their own publication if they are to turn the teaching of the Black Experience in Africa and the world over into [Most European and European-American historians set 300 A.D. interpretations that have no place for the Stanley and Tarzan episode inwhich present European and European-American educators continue to write about their "Negroes." The "authority" on African and African-American history and heritage must rest in the hands of people of African origin as with all other ethnic disciplines in institutions of higher-learning policies. For it is the Africans who are not alien to the Black Experience; and it is with them the truths of the Black Experience must lie. Were these steps already taken, in defiance of the many anti this and anti that names which, naturally, will follow such action, then, and only then, other episodes like the "Cleopatra's Needle Cornerstone setting" racist spectacle will not re-occur. If not, then they will continue in excess like G. C. Seligman, RACES OF AFRICA, New York, 1938 (1967 and 1969). We, African and African-American educators and writers must not be disillusioned into believing, anymore, that our history and heritage, glorious as they are to others, should be ignored by us as "cultural nationalism" and "chauvinism", as so frequently stated by the so-called "New" and "Old Left," and leave ours to study that of Karl Marx, Frederich Engles, Fidel Castro, Queen Victoria, Napoleon, Voltaire, unless they are studied in terms of our own ~lack Experience first. This does not, in any way whatsoever, mean that we do not study the works of each and every nation's people on the planet Earth, and of other planets there may be. What it does mean, however, is that we must first be verse in ours before we think of mastering someone else, remembering all the time our indigenous ancestor’s age-old words of wisdom to us: MAN, KNOW THYSELF. We cannot ignore "Cleopatra's Needle," or any other aspect of our contributions to world civilization because of leftist or rightist rhetoric no more than we can ignore the multi-faceted philosophical life-style meaning our own religions of African vintage offer us. For in their religions our African forefathers based much of what we call today "secular history" and "religious education." The "separation of church and state, religious and secular, fane and the profane, are not concepts in African tradition anywhere on the continent of Alkebu-lan (Africa), they are strictly "Western" --primarily European-American. Because this was done for centuries among the Europeans and European-Americans, whose culture and religions we were forced to take on; it is no reason why we, as African peoples with a distinctly different set of values, must follow. We were enslaved for a few hundred years by European and European-American imperialist and colonialist slavers, also by Arab Muslim slave masters from the Arabian Peninsula, as well as Persians from the eastern side of said Peninsula, but this does not mean that we enjoyed any of our slave masters, nor will we tolerate neither in the future The fact that such a monumental shrine of our African heritage, "Cleopatra's Needle," could be located just a stone’s throw from the world's largest Black Metropolis outside of Africa, Harlem, New York City, New York, and more than 99 percent of the entire population of African-Americans in it do not know that their own "Black and beautiful" sister's Obelisk stands in Central Park, which connects to Harlem, is a catastrophic event in the African-American life which we may never live down. This shrine, equally that of Harriet Tubman at upstate New York; Frederick Douglass in Washington D.C.; Alexander Hamilton in Harlem, New York City; and all other related to the Black Experience in the United States of America, should be common-place names and historical biographies upon the tongue of each and every African-American man, woman, and child. It may even become necessary for rededicating all of our shrines according to standards and values establish by ourself. But, first of all, there must be a world-wide movement to force all European and European-American nations holding stolen African properties, or “trophies” such as "Cleopatra's Needle," to return them forthwith to their proper African nation from whence they were illegally removed. For, is it not true that "the receiver of stolen property is equally as guilty as the thief that stole it according to Anglo-Saxon jurisprudence, morality, and law? At least, this is what is written in legal books, the Hebrew or Jewish Holy Torah, the Christian Holy Bible (all versions of it), the Moslem or Muslim Koran or Qu'ran. Why not "Cleopatra's Needle" for a worthy beginning? Leroux, 1916, Part 2, p. 124], as translated in Professor Cheikh Anta Diop's book -AFRICAN ORIGIN OF CIVILIZATION: MYTH OR REALITY?, “From various Egyptian legends, I have been able to conclude that Dr. Yosef A.A. ben-Jochannan, affectionately known as "Dr. Ben" was born December 31, 1918, to a Puerto Rican mother and an Ethiopian father in what is known as the "Falasha" Hebrew community in Gondar, Ethiopia. Dr. Ben's formal education began in Puerto Rico. His early education continued in The Virgin Islands and in Brazil, where he attended elementary and secondary school. Dr. Ben earned a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering at the university of Puerto Rico, and a Master's degree in Architectural Engineering from the University of Havana, Cuba. He received doctorial degrees in Cultural Anthropology and Moorish History, from the University of Havana and the University of Barcelona Spain. In 1939, shortly after receiving his undergraduate degree, Dr. Ben's father sent him to Egypt to study first hand the ancient history of African People. Since 1941, Dr. Ben has been to Egypt at least twice a year. He began leading educational tours to Egypt in 1946. When asked why he began the tours, he replied "because no one knew or cared about Egypt and most believed Egypt was not in Africa." According to Dr. Ben, Egypt is the place to go to learn the fundamentals of living. Over five decades have passed and Dr. Ben, a preeminent scholar and Egyptologist, remains focused on Nile Valley Civilization. Dr. Ben is a 360° Mason of The Craft.
